The mission of the Friends of Silverbrook Cemetery, working with the City Government, is to promote and restore Silverbrook Cemetery to its once proud heritage.

Work Sessions

In 2007 we restored over 60 stones and monuments and cleaned over 170 stones. We appreciate the over 200 man-hours put in, not just for the restoration of the stones, but for the effort on the new fence along Main St. and the fence repair on Cherry St.

We meet at the storage vault. The work sessions are the 1st and 3rd Saturdays each month from 9 a.m. to noon, April through October. If you like to paint, we will have painting supplies and latex gloves here. Bring something comfortable to sit on. Fence repair and replacement, painting, stone restoration and photography are some of the things are that dearly needed.

Below are our Saturday dates. These have been so well attended that we are considering adding Wednesday sessions as well this summer. Please check back for updates!

April 5 & 19
May 3 & 17
June 7& 21
July 5 & 19
August 2 & 16

If you haven't been here in a while, you might think you've landed someplace else!  It was time for a change.  This website had been maintained since its inception with Microsoft's Frontpage web editing software.  Microsoft is dropping support for it this year.  That forced us to look for something else.

We wanted to make this website more of a research portal.  There are binders packed full of really interesting history of the cemetery and the City of Niles.

I found a Content Management System called Joomla.  Besides having strong support for news articles, it's FREE!  That means that more donations can go into the stone restoration efforts instead of buying software.

When setting up the new website, I tried to use as much of the themes from the old one.  The grave search and photo gallery are the same.  I have a stack of updates to the grave search database.  There are thousands of new photos in the gallery.

Come back often!  If you have any questions or suggestions, please write.
