Helen J. Ames

NILES - Helen J. Ames, 82, of 531 Broadway, died at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, in Cass County Medical Care Facility, Cassopolis. She had been owner-operator of Helen's Beauty Shop. Mrs. Ames was born on July 15, 1912, in Stanton, Mich., and had lived most of her life in the Niles area. In June 1936, she married Victor Munroe. He died in April 1950. On Sept. 9, 1951, in Detroit, she married Robert E. Ames. He died on Dec. 31, 1977. She is survived by three daughters, Jennifer Ray and Joy Smith, both of Niles and Jill Smith of McCall, Idaho; a son, Jack Munroe of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Alger Palmer of Niles. Mrs. Ames was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and Watson Plate Collectors Club.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Halbritter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Halbritter Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Pets Alive.
