John C. Cuthbert

John C. Cuthbert dies at farm home

Walton Road resident for 27 years passes: Funeral in Niles Saturday.

 

John C. Cuthbert, 71, died Thursday night at his home on the Walton Road.

He was born in Berrien Springs, Jan. 3, 1864 and in 1899 was married to Jemima Dressler who died Jan. 7, 1952, he was the son of John and Phoebe Phillips Cuthbert.

Mrs. Cuthbert had lived on the Walton Road for 27 years and had long been active in all community projects. He was a leading a member of the Grange and for several terms had been director of the school board.

Surviving are one daughter, ruby M., who lives at home; a sister, Mrs. Mary E.. Hartline, Los Angeles; a brother, James H. Cuthbert, South Bend and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Price and Kiger Funeral Home Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock and burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery. The Rev. A.R. Kuehn will officiate. The body will be at the funeral home until the hour of the funeral.

  
 
Dalenberg, Roma V. (Hills) PDF Print E-mail

Roma V. (Hills) Dalenberg, 78, of Bardstown, Ky., formerly of Niles, died Saturday Nov. 24, 2001,  in Norton Hospice Palliative Care, Louisville, Ky., after an illness. She was born June 5, 1923. Survivors include two sons, Dennis D. of Chandler, Ariz., and Duane D. of Bardstown; and two brothers, Wilbur E. Hills of Vero Beach, Fla., and Armand B. Hills of Tampa, Fla. Private services will be held. There will be no visitation. Halbritter Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.

Anarose Davis

May 13, 1912 - Feb. 4, 2003

Mrs. Howard C. Davis, 90, of Tomahawk Lane, Niles, Mich., died following an extended illness at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, Ind.

She was born on May 13, 1912, in Muskegon, Mich., and graduated from Muskegon High School. On Aug. 12, 1931, in Muskegon, she was married to Howard Cole Davis. At the request of Mr. Jerry Tyler, Howard and Anarose followed the relocation of Tyler Refrigeration from Muskegon to Niles in 1932. In 1947 Howard established Davis Products which was best known for the manufacture of compact kitchens. Davis Products had facilities in both Niles and Dowagiac, Mich., eventually closing in 1990. Anarose was an employee of the firm for many years.

She was very active in the growth of the Christian Church, helping establish Westminster Presbyterian Church and the former Church of the Savior, both of Niles, and was formerly a member of First Presbyterian Church, Niles. She was very interested in Christian education and had written portions of nationally distributed curriculum for Sunday School classes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard C. Davis Sr., who died on April 15, 1990; by her parents; and by a sister, Evelyn (Mrs. Arthur) Mould, who died on June 30, 1995.

Surviving family includes their son, Howard C. (Lynette) Davis Jr. of Niles; granddaughter, Kerry Longwell (Mrs. Lane) Hamilton of Denver, Colo.; grandsons, Christopher (Kim) Davis of Green Bay, Wis., and Bill Davis of Castle Rock, Colo.; seven great-grandchildren; and her sister, Kathleen (Mrs. Andrew) McCormick of Niles; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Anarose Davis will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, in the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with the Rev. Leon Roggen of Niles officiating. Committal services will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Contributions in memory of Mrs. Davis may be made to the organization of the donor's choice.

Davis, Bertha (Peterson) PDF Print E-mail

Bertha (Peterson) Davis, 96, of 901 Broadway Street, Niles, passed away on Monday December 27, 2004, at Lakeland Hospital in Niles.

Bertha was born on December 20, 1908, in New Carlisle, IN, to the late Albert and Alice (Fredenburg) Peterson. In 1927, Bertha married Floyd Davis at a ceremony in Niles, MI. She was a nurse for many years at Pawating Hospital in Niles.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Davis; a daughter Beverly Davis; a grandson, Wade J. Freel; a sister, Mary Rohrough; and a brother, Robert Peterson.

Survivors include a cousin, Daryl (Beverly) Ramsby of South Bend, IN; a sister, Irene Marks of Mesa, Arizona,; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In keeping with Bertha's wishes, no public services will be held. Interment will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Niles.

 
Davis, Charles PDF Print E-mail

NILES -- Charles "Chucky" Davis, 68, died Friday Sept. 8, 2006, in Heartland HealthCare Facility, Three Rivers, after an illness. He was born Oct. 11, 1937.  Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Silverbrook Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Brown Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
