Mrs. Alice M. Schmuhl, 45, of 1617 Clarendon Avenue, nurse for the Niles Public schools System died at 1:35 a.m. today in Billings Hospital at Chicago following an illness of two weeks.

Mrs. Schmuhl, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Nightingale Club and Alpha Beta Epsilon Sorority, was born Dec. 17, 1913, in Delta, O.,and came to this community in 1926 from there. She was married on April 6, 1940, in the Niles Methodist Church to Gerald Schmuhl, who survives.

Also surviving are: her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Myers, of Niles; seven sisters, Mrs. Reid Shirrell and Mrs. Carl Rowe, both of South Bend, Mrs. Claude Parker, of Sturgis, Mrs. Clarence McLauchlin, Mrs. Richard Camp and Mrs. Jacqueline Wetherspoon, all of Niles, and Mrs. Charles Dhaboldt, in Oregon, and two brothers, Wilbur Myers, of Niles, and LaMar Myers, in California.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. , Monday in the First Presbyterian Church with the pastor, the Rev. John P. MacLachlan, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Frineds may call at the Kiger-Halbritter Funeral Home beginning Saturday noon.

Gerald Lee Star[sic], 28 of 597 Moraine Avenue, Akron, O., grandson of Mrs. Georgia Kingston, of Niles, died at 2:30 a.m. Monday at Akron.

Friends may call at the Pifer Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Committal services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Silverbrook Cemetery.

He was born in Akron, O., and beside his grandmother is survived by his parents, Mr.and Mrs. Ray C. Starr, of Akron; five brothers, Edward, Richard, David and Thomas Starr, all of Akron, and Fred Starr, of Sawyer, and four sisters, Mrs. Walter White, of Akron, and Mary, Susan and Sarah Starr, all of Akron.

 

Troost, Louisa W.

Mrs. Louisa W. Troost, 86, of Coral Gables, Fla., died at 8 a.m. Sunday in Pawating Hospital. She had been in poor health for eight years.

Her husband, Joseph, died in 1950. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Malcolm Hull, of Niles; a granddaughter, Mrs. Leo Buckley,of Niles; a sister, Mrs. Beth Morse, of Portland, Ore., a brother, Leonard Willows, of Cornwall, Ont., and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Troost was born in South Lincolnshire, England, October 10, 1869, and came to Niles from St. Albans, Vt., in 1903. Friends may call at the Pifer Funeral Home until noon Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, the Rev.John Carlton, officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

 

York, Kristi Dawn

NILES--Kristi Dawn York, two and one-half months old, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith York, of Tampa, Fla. died at 3:15 p.m. Monday at South Bend Osteopathic Hospital.

Kristi was born on April 21 in MacDill AFB, Fla.

She is survived by her parents; four grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edsel York, Niles, and John and Christine Armstrong of South Bend; a brother, Ronald, at home; a sister, Tammy, at home; and a great grandmother, Mrs. Viola Cross, Niles.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at graveside in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Halbritter Funeral Home.

 

Young, Frank L.

Frank L. Young, 81, of 1453 Barron Lake Road, life-time resident of the Niles community, died at 6:30 a.m. today in the Niles Nursing Home where he had been a patient. He had been ill for about a year.

Mr. Young, a retired farmer and employe of the New York Central Railroad, was born Jan. 22, 1877, in Howard Township. His wife, Katharine, preceded him in death on Feb.9, 1941.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Florence Sommer, of Eau Claire; five sons, Russell, Claude, Earl, Eugene and Max Young, all of Niles; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Kintzele, of Michigan City, Ind.; and Mrs. Rose Zimmer and Mrs. Marge Phelps, both of Niles, and a brother, Peter Young, also of Niles.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Kiger-Halbritter Funeral Home here with the Rev.L. George Beacock, pastor of the First Methodist Church, offiicating.[sic] Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.

On the 9th inst., at her residence, two miles north of Niles, Mrs. HANNAH YOUNGS, aged 66 years.

Mrs. Youngs was one of the early settlers of this section of country, having emigrated from the State of New York in the year 1836. She leaves a husband, six children and a number of grand children to mourn her loss.

 

Zimmerman, Roy E.

NILES--Roy E. Zimmerman, 79, of 520 Lake St., died at 11:35 p.m. Wednesday in Dor-A-Lin Nursing Home, following an extended illness. He was a retired employe of the Studebaker Corporation and a member of St. John's United Church of Christ.

Mr. Zimmerman was born Sept. 26, 1896 in Niles and lived his entire life here. On Dec. 15, 1917 he married the former Golda A. James, who died April 4, 1956.

He is survived by a son, Donald of Mishawaka; a sister, Mrs. Frieda Bryant of Niles, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Harry O. Willman, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at the Halbritter Funeral Home. Memorials may be made the Mr. Zimmerman's church.
