Marian Binns

Marian June Binns, age 85 years of Niles, Michigan, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and lifelong homemaker, died peacefully at 1:31 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2023 with family at her bedside at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana following an extended illness.

She was born on July 2, 1937 in South Bend to William and Ruth (Murdick) Crone.  As a young woman, she was employed at the former Niles locations of the W. T. Grant and K-Mart department stores, and at Peel’s Supermarket.  When she became a mother, she began her life’s vocation of caring for her family as a housewife and homemaker.

Marian attended Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Niles most of her life, and more recently – as her eyesight has diminished – she has become an avid student of the scriptures through an Electronic Bible Study.

On September 8, 1953 in Niles she married Richard C. Binns, Sr. with whom she celebrated last year the remarkable Sixty-ninth Anniversary of their wedding.

They were sadly preceded in death by a granddaughter, 28 years old Jamie Lynn Binns on June 18, 2022.  Marian was also preceded in death by her brothers, Phil Crone and Richard Crone.

Surviving family includes her husband, Richard Binns, Sr and their children, June Wardlaw and Jeanne Reed, both of Niles, Barbara Binns of Nashua, New Hampshire, Richard (& Renée) Binns, Jr. of Berrien Springs, Michigan, and Mike Binns and Danny Binns, both of Niles; grandchildren including Scott, Tia, Jeremy, Emily, Marcy, Nathan, Matt, and Aaron; several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; Marian’s siblings, Betty Post and Herb Crone, both of South Bend, and Charlotte Hicks of Clearwater, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

The family of Marian Binns will gather privately for Committal Rites at her graveside at the Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.  Arrangements were made at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 East Main Street in Niles.  Online condolences may be left at:

Marian’s life was a mission to care for others, especially her children, grandchildren, and husband; a mission well-done, and now complete.
